Hi,

what would be the fastest card available today ? (Consumer vs quadro vs super computer tesla)

We haven't tested any Tesla cards, but the fastest NVIDIA graphics card for Octane would be in single-GPU mode an overclocked GTX 580 and in multi-GPU mode an overclocked GTX 590.

OK thanks for the info. When using a Multi GPU setup, does octane use all of them at once when rendering and how much of a speed gain can one expect from such a setup ? (1: 100%, 2: 175%, 3: 250% ?)

I'd love to see the results of one of the professional cards as they were actually built for GPGPU . Anyone ?

I just read about the Geforce GTX 590 (liked the 3 monitor export, the 3 gig ram and performance boost)
How much faster should this make my renders (compared to the geforce 570?) Does anybody know that?
+ Can i use the GTX 570 AND the GTX 590 together in one machine, or would that take too much power and generate too much heat?

Hi,

The new Octane beta 2.48 coming out in a few days has a new multi-gpu framework that provides linear speedup.
Eg, 2 cards = 200%, 4 cards = 400%.

2x GTX580 3GB would be much better than 1x GTX590 3GB has the latter splits the memory for each of the 2 GPUs onboard, giving only 1.5GB useable space.

Surely the Tesla 2050 is the fastest and most durable due to the lack of heat build up issues? (This is discussed elsewhere on the forum and suggests that the 580 burns very hot (dangerously so some say) but the 2050 runs much better in this regard. I guess therefore that the 2050 doesn't need cooling? Does this further suggest because the resistance is higher as the temperature increases that the Tesla would be more speedy (not to mention durable) over a long render period?

I work on 2 x Gainward GTX 580 3GB. I disassembled sock fans and mounted EK water blocks. This water cooling system gives me stable up to 55C temp. on both GPUs (after couple of hours of rendering; 30C idle). So as Radiance said 3GB 580 is better than 590 (memory split).

Wouldn't the Tesla 2075 be a faster card? Are there any heat problems with the 2075?

My single 580GTX doesnt get over 77°C while under full load. Make sure you have a good case with flow. even if one of your card burns out you will have them replaced for free using warranty. I cant imagine any situation where it is crucial to have a super expensive tesla. if a tesla burns out while in a rendering job you would have to get replacement too. so it doesnt matter for me if I buy a card elsewhere and get it to me via overnight exptress or if nvidia sents me another tesla via overnight express too.

All this selling arguments nvidia tells the users about durability and support which is included into the higher retail price is just marketing for me.
The only reason why i might buy a tesla are the 6Gb vram if needed. but for company sizes of most people here (up to 10 in a studio) this doesnt apply I guess.
