Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new test version of OctaneRender™ for Maya® Version 2018.1
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2016, 2016.5, 2017 and 2018 64-bit on Windows, Linux and OSX operating systems.

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 387 or higher and if you are working on Mac OS that have a CUDA driver installed that supports at least CUDA 9.1.

Changelog and the installers for Octane Standalone 2018.1 are here:
OctaneRender Standalone 2018.1 RC1

Changes since version 14.5:
  • Implemented the more flexible way to attach Maya colorsets to Octane vertex attributes. There are new Octane-specific mesh attributes implemented, allowing the colorset names to be entered for each Octane vertex attributes' set (same as Maya does for motion vectors).

Hi!

Please help us to locate the bugs with referencing. As we have serious issues which hinder our proper production.

In general more often then not, when we reference, delete reference or replace reference in a scene the Maya crashes with node error.
It also happenes when saving or loading files with references.

We suspects the issue is with the octaneSettings nodes. (But we are not certain)

When we reference files into our scenes. It always import its octaneSettings node. We have both Namespace and nonNamespaced references. And as it seems the issue is with the ones without a Namespace. Most of the times the files original octaneSettings gets deleted because the Reference has one settings too. As this way octane selects the settings node randomly, we have various type of errors from crashing the entire Maya to just simply not rendering properly.

We tested this with both 2018 and the Stable 4.x releases. Both are the same. We use the 2018 as it feels more stable.

Thank you

You should never delete the root settings node, it must be present in a scene - all Octane settings are stored in this node.
Please PM me the scene where you have the problem, and the reproduce sequence.

I see one potential problem that could affect what you are describing here. I will release new versions soon with some changes - just test your workflow with them. If you will still have some issues - then I will need your scene and the reproduce sequence...

From a RGBA colorSet (which is the more common case in Maya) I can get RGB extracted in the new Octane vertex color attribute, this works fine thanks,
but how could I extract the Alpha component from the RGBA colorset ?
I tried many names in the Octane vertex float attribute : colorSetName.a, colorSetName[3] , ... , even the exact name of the Maya attribute but none works.
Or does this mean float vertex attributes only works with ColorSet having only the alpha component ?

We never delete the node. Maya does it automatically when scene is saved/loaded probably because of the references.

Thank you for the quick response. We can`t wait to test it out with the new version once its out and get back to you.
