Currently when I use TFD, I can't get Z passes to work. Does anyone know a way around this? If I was to convert my TFD simulation to a VDB, would that work?
Thanks!
How to get TurbulenceFD to work with Z Passes?
You need to use these passes for volumes.alecmaassen wrote:Currently when I use TFD, I can't get Z passes to work. Does anyone know a way around this? If I was to convert my TFD simulation to a VDB, would that work?

So this doesn't seem to really be working. I'm hoping you can help me out here. Once I render out the front and back Z-depth passes for volumes, they tend to look like utter crap and I'm not sure if I'm doing some wrong in my compositing later on or what, but they just don't seem to be working whatsoever.
Is there a way to render Z-depth front or back with an alpha channel?
My front and back z-depth volume passes seem to be so screwed up, they aren't smooth and very grainy despite the image or volume not being grainy in the beauty pass. When I create a Z-depth composition in After effects, none of them fit together because the alpha is going from BLACK to WHITE to BLACK. The only reason I've ever got regular Z depth to work in After effects is because the z-pass renders with an alpha channel in which case I can put a solid white layer as the background in my Depth composition, that way I get a pure BLACK to WHITE depth pass. When using Frischluft (depth of field plugin for AE), it severely screws up going from black to white to black.
As of right now, Z-depth front and back are completely broken and unusable until they can be rendered with an alpha channel. I'm not sure if I'm being stupid, but as of right now I can get them to have an alpha.
