Hey guys so just wanted to check up on how people are doing with storage and such on here?
I'm currently on a Synology ds414j with 3x4TB and 1 6TB.
Right now everything just acts as one disk and nothing is really mirrored. I can work seamlessly directly from the NAS and kind of like the way it is setup. However as having some shutdowns lately I want to be 100% safe and keep it mirrored. So thinking about upgrading to 4x8TB disks and just mirror the system so I have a backup of everything.
Anyway just wanted to see how you guys have and if you can share any tips and tricks!

Storage and backup
We use three Synology DS1513+ NAS boxes that are each 5 x 6TB drives. I forget which RAID level they are (5?), but it's the one where you can hot-swap any one drive per box while everything is live with no interruption of service. It has happened once in the last three years where one drive started having some IO errors, but the system gave plenty of warning, long before the drive actually failed. It takes a few hours for the newly swapped drive to rebuild to the point where any of the five could be pulled again.
Each NAS is constantly mirrored to a cloud backup service.
We've got five animators working directly off the NAS volumes and have never had any problems. Any remote work syncs first to the cloud, then back down to the NASs.
I think it's far more important to have off-site backup than to have a full local mirror. It's also a whole lot cheaper per safely backed up TB. A RAID 5 system will give you local security against any individual drive failure, with no down time. In conjunction with an offsite cloud backup in case of fire/flood/theft, ect. (which would take out any local mirror you might have), you're pretty well covered.
