Wondering if anyone else is having problems?

For past two days or so, it is taking up to a minute to load forum pages on Firefox. I just tried MS Edge (which I normally don't use) and while substantially quicker - that too is still taking up to 10 - 20 seconds to load pages.

Strange thing is I can access all other parts of the Otoy web site fine - just the fourm pages are loading slow for me.

Yes! Same with me. Started end of last week. Was hoping it was only temporary. Main site is okay.

It takes about a minute to load each page in Firefox. And Edge and Chrome are still about 30-45 seconds per page for me. Makes it unusable really.

OTOY web administrator needs to look into this. May want to change your forum topic and add "WEB ADMINS PLEASE READ" or something. I couldn't find a way to contact the website administrator through the menus.

Hi Guys,

These are the only reports we have received regarding slow page loading speeds on the forums (excluding pegot's open support ticket 127256 ), and tests from our NZ office (where I am) show worst-case loading times of 4-5 seconds (i.e. no cached files, loading large topics). As this shows that not all requests to our forums are affected by this issue, we will need more information to try to identify the cause.
  1. Could you confirm what pages are affected, or does this affect all https://render.otoy.com/forum/ pages?
  2. Could you confirm at what time(s) you experienced this?
  3. Could you try switching your DNS server to CloudFlare's to ensure you are resolving the closest CDN server
  4. Could you perform a tracert to rule out a networking issue?
C: Could you try switching your DNS server to CloudFlare's to ensure you are resolving the closest CDN server.

It is possible that your currently configured DNS provider is not correctly resolving CloudFlare's authoritative DNS servers, resulting in you connecting to a distant CDN server. Could you try switching the DNS server used by your machine to CloudFlare's, to ensure that your machine is connecting to a server closest to you? (Instructions).

D: Could you perform a tracert to rule out a networking issue.

Open up a command prompt and run tracert:
  • Open a Run dialog (Ctrl + R), enter in cmd, and click OK.
  • Either paste in or type in the command ipconfig /flushdns, and press Enter.
  • Either paste in or type in the command tracert render.otoy.com, and press Enter (This will take some time to complete).
  • Screenshot or copy the output of this command and send it to us for further troubleshooting.

Okay, I changed it to Cloudflare's DNS servers and the problems immediately cleared up. So it was my DNS (Verizon FIOS which was configured to automatically resolve). I had actually used Cloudflare's DNS before, but it gave me some other problems so I switched back. This is the only website giving me problems on Verizon.

To answer your other questions, it had affected all of the https://render.otoy.com/forum/ pages. And it happened at all times of the day. And I had flushed my DNS cache.

So I'll leave it on the Cloudflare DNS server for now, and hopefully my other issue won't crop up. Just can't remember why I dumped Cloudflare.

Thank you for your help.

Thanks BCres for letting me know that switching to CloudFlare's DNS service resolved the issue for you.
pegot, were you able to test changing your DNS settings?

I have not yet had time to switch my DNS server. Nor to follow up with Verizon. It certainly appears to be a Verizon issue though as I can access the forum pages fine on my mobile using cellular data, which I am doing now.

Also I am just a bit reluctant to change DNS servers as I am unsure if that will effect other things on my Network?

Not sure the second part of the question was directed at me as well, but yes I did change my DNS settings and have used Cloudflare for a couple of days with no issue (still can't recall why I had to take it off before.)

Changing it on your local system shouldn't harm anything. Just change it on your "Network and Internet settings" under "Change Adapter options" then under the properties of the adapter. If it screws something up, just change it back.

If I remember why I changed it back off Cloudflare in the first place I'll post it here.

Yes, switching to CloudFlare cleared up the loading delay. Yay!
