Okay folks,

I got the app made. The premise was to make a Gear VR store compliant app for this AlterNative Current 180 stereo video, or just to learn the process, get it to the store with minimum fee and get some feedback from the normie VR users. If that would have been positive, I would have continued to develop more cinematic 180 (or 220) VR. Final goal being around 2020 when the VR begins to be more mainstream.

Creating this app was a pretty tricky thing. First it seemed that 180 stereo format is a no go. All the plugins for Unity, that were supposed to handle this format, were extremely buggy. Companies that had this working, had in-house-solutions, and of course, a company secret. Fortunately, together with the AVPro video plugin devs we got a functioning solution. Then adding all the features Oculus expects the apps to have was quite a headache.

Well, everything got green in the Oculus Checklist and finally it got "approved".... "keys only".
Meaning, for some reason, they don't want this to their store, but I can distribute or sell keys for this app and people can redeem it in the Oculus Gear VR store (redeem code) and then it works normally.
I just don't have any idea what to do with these keys. At the moment it looks like developing a cinematic VR video is quite pointless. No places to distribute it, with a fee, no opportunities to gain even minimal revenue. You can distribute for free on Youtube, but, as the nature of these videos are quite something else, than just go out and shoot a video then release it free on youtube, this development is now over from my behalf. Shame. There's lots of potential, imho, in this, but I simply don't have afford to chase this anymore. Need to get back to corporate videos and commercials. VR is on hold for me.

Anyways, I'll print the keys here. Only place in the internet I could figure out. :)
Feedback and ideas what to do with this app would be much appreciated. Good, bad, neutral, intense love or hate, I can take it :)
Also, please rate it at the Oculus Home too.

To use the code, open your Gear VR store app in your phone. Bottom right corner are the settings, there is an option to "redeem code". Throw the code in and it will start downloading and installing. App is perfectly safe and has gone through all Oculus safety measures and checklists. After the app is downloaded, it works as if it were purchased from the Oculus Store and appears on Oculus Home main screen, in your library with all the additional info about the app.

I understand this whole thing smells a bit like rotten fish, to just distribute keys around, so I prove that I am the author:

And here's the Oculus info about "keys only" option:
https://developer.oculus.com/distribute ... ide-store/
In some instances, apps that do not meet our technical or quality standards are also designated as “keys only” applications. In these cases, we encourage you to use keys to solicit additional user feedback and further test their VR application before resubmitting for review.

To create Oculus Keys:

Log on to https://dashboard.oculus.com.
On the My Apps page, hover the mouse over an app that has already been reviewed by Oculus and approved for release or key generation, and click Edit Details.
Click the Oculus Keys tab and then follow the on-screen instructions.

You can generate single keys or many in bulk. After you have obtained Oculus keys for your app, you can distribute the keys yourself or through other stores and websites such as Amazon's Digital Software store.
Okay, I think there's all.

Hi,
thanks for sharing!
I lent the GearVR to a friend, but I will try this for sure as soon as I have it back.
ciao Beppe
