When I'm material picking in octane IPR this always turns off the octane render region.

I'm referring to the Octane RR, not Modo's RR (useful for a different workflow)

Current workflow -->

-select render region
-pick material
-(render region resets to full screen IPR)
-select render region (again)
-edit material

repeat for all materials I wish to edit.

This really needs to work more like the other plugins (C4D & Lightwave etc) where you can material pick to your hearts content without the render region resetting.

Thanks,
Dino.

I agree and have been meaning to bring this up too. I'm not sure why the modo plugin works this way.

It doesnt work this way in standalone. You can have a render region and still pick materials just fine.

I would like to see it working the same way in the modo plugin.

Hi Paul any chance of this being fixed in the next release?

The Octane Standalone RR persists even when loading a new scene, which I find a little confusing, and it is not obvious that the RR has been set if it encompasses almost the entire render area. The Modo plugin currently cancels the RR when you unclick the RR button (which I personally think is much more intuitive for users), however it can easily made it work like Octane Standalone - although there would need to be a mechanism put in place so a user can cancel the RR once it is set (I can't see how to do this is Octane Standalone - perhaps it is a single rightclick, although that gave me a Cuda 719 error).

Render region is reset by a single left click in standalone.

In the modo plugin, the material picker button deactivates when RR is set.

Can you make it so that the material picker button activation is persistent, even when RR button is clicked. Then to select materials use right click.

Not of as much concern to me, but you could use the same implementation with the Viewport Navigation button which has the same problem where the camera navigation resets when you switch to material picker.

I suspect the plugin would get confused as to whether the mouse click was for the render region or a material pick. This needs a more serious overhaul to align the functionality with Octane Standalone, which I will do once Octane 4 is stable.

confused?.....

Simple.. left click for RR, right click for MP. Are you saying you aren't able to code this so the octane IPR can tell the difference between a left or right click?

Does this work exactly the same as standalone? No. and modo users don't care.

The plugin brings the functionality of octane into Modo- where purchasers of the plugin are comfortable working. Look at what Juanjo has done for the Lightwave plugin: shift click to material pick while in RR. There isn't even a material picker button in the LW IPR interface but so what.. it all works and works well.
