Hello,

This function - turning off opacity for a mesh light, while keeping the light emission - does work in my Carrara/Octane, but not in my Blender Octane.

To add to the problem, the Blender Area light is not working at all. The manual states this is the only Blender light that is Octane friendly.

Suggested work around appreciated, as basically, I am shot down without lights for my work.

Thank you,
Rick

Decreasing Material Opacity value decreases the opacity of the mesh at the same time it decreases the light emission. This is how it is supposed to work.
If you want to keep the emission and hide the mesh emitter at the same time you need to go to Octane properties and uncheck the Camera visibility checkbox.

or just enable "Transparent Emission" of the Emission Node. Then it will work as you expected.
This will give you visiblilty per material.

Or you can use Octane render layers to hide objects from camera too.
