Hey everyone.

I have a project due Monday. Very simple scene (download attached). Its a parametric cube and I'm having the following issues:

1. Once I bevel the edges, the displacement map separates at the edges. I understand this is because I'm breaking the UV's once I bevel and tried using box mode but that just makes every side of the box have the displacement instead of just the front face. I've tried making the object editable and selecting just the front polygons but i still get the funky edges.

I'm hoping someone can download the scene and fix the Displacement to only show on one side and to have nice edges and also explain if my work flow is incorrect.. I uploaded my file and screen shots to help.

Thank you,
Robert.

Displacements in Octane can be a little tricky at times. In this case, the parametric cube is part of the problem, as the face vertexes of the cube are NOT welded together. You will need to convert your cube to an editable object, and optimize your points. This will weld the cube into a single cohesive object, which Octane will have better luck displacing. That said, there are still potential issues, to my recollection. You might need to adjust the displacement midpoint option to either 0 or 1 (defaults to 0.5). That should get you mostly there, but you may still have trouble. Searching the Cinema forums for displacement will get you more information.

Good luck!

Is it fast? Oh, yeah!

try changing this displacement dropdown to follow geometric normal.
It closes the gaps here

Yeah I tried all the usual settings. But this is beyond that. I tried with and without parametric objects and both had similar issues. The C4D cube is auto welded together by C4D. However a cylinder wont be auto welded as you described.

I'm on 3.08 too, but R17. Not sure if there's a difference from R16 to R17.
Can you post a screenshot of your displacement tab?
