Hi,

I have a problem using the Maya2Octane export plug in.
The materials are linked wrong.
This is what I have done:
- I exported a Rhino scene (using Sam's export plug in) and assigned material nodes in Octane.
- I saved the ocs and used the Maya2Octane exporter and started a render.
Until here everything worked fine.
The model shows up but all materials are linked wrong.
Maya has assinged a name prefix on the obj meshes as well as on the materials in the hypergraph (and adds "1") - maybe this causes the problem!?

old material name: glass
new material name: _AnimTest:glass1

Does this causel the material linking problem?
How can I import the obj into maya correctly (if this is the problem)?

Any ideas?
Please help.

Relinking is done via material names. As soon as the name of a material changes, it is treated like a new material. -> Make sure that the material names in the MTL file don't change.

Hi Marcus,
thank you for the fast reply.
I will write a small rename script and test it within the next days.
That will hopefully solve the problem :)
Have a good weekend.
Cheers

I have found out that the problem occured because of the namespace before the materialname. I could easily remove the namespace with the namespace command in maya.
The "1" was not the problem because this is done by maya because of the Shading Group names.

But there is one problem that is still there:

When I check "export camera only" in the animation settings of the maya2octane export plug in it still can not link the materials correctly.
But the "render" (still frame) button works fine. Allthough when I uncheck "export camera only" it renders fine.
So I guess that there is a "material reinterpretation and linking" process left out if you choose "export camera only".
It would be great when this step (correct re-linking of materials) is also performed when you only export the camera.

Any suggestions.
