Hi Paul,

Hope you are well. I know you are working on the plugin for the new Rhino6.

1) I was wondering if the plugin for Rhino6 will have full support for the native Rhino Materials? I have a project coming up where it might be easiest for me to animate materials instead of doing VFX in post and Bongo will animate Rhino materials but not Octane ones. I was thinking if the new plugin for 6 will have full support of native Rhino materials then animating them with Bongo would be the way to go for me.

2) Also, with the above being said, do you have a general idea of when you might be releasing the plugin for V6? I'm not trying to rush your progress it's just more for planning purposes on my part. A week or two, or more like a month or two?

Thanks,
Ryan

Hey Ryan,

I think the next/R6 release is tied to the 3.08 release by Otoy..

At the moment the plugin convert the Rhino material to an Octane material once - and that is at the start of the animation. So to implement what you ask, the plugin would need to convert the Rhino materials to Octane materials every frame, which may be possible - but I am not certain if the Bongo values changes will come through or not. So in summary, it's something that could probably be done, HOWEVER, the later versions of the Rhino6 RhinoCommon SDK are presenting significant changes for me getting the plugin to run correctly. So I would prefer to dedicate my time to the core Rhino6 functionality at this stage.

The Rhino6 plugin will be released with the next Octane release. However I think it will take some time to get the Rhino6 version of the plugin working as smoothly as the current Rhino5 version.

It is waiting on the next Octane release, and even then, the first Rhino6 build may not be particularly stable. So I would not count on a stable release in 2 weeks.
