I'm having a problem with noise on a bottle render. I'm getting a lot of noise in certain areas, like the shadow area of the label and certain areas of the glass.

This was rendered at 16000 samples, PT Kernel. The shot is lit by an HDRI and one area light. I've tried upping the samples on the light a bit but it didn't do much.

I'm using 2 x 980tis and at A4 300ppi it's taking 4 hours to render.

Is my only option to increase the samples massively and have it take much longer to render?

Try under different lighting conditions. Noises look like caustic rays. Increase caustic_blur.

I'm getting better results using the PMC kernel at 16000 samples. But it's a 10 hour render. Will experiment with Caustics Blur next.

It's crazy though, some areas of the image are noise free after 10 secs, other areas are STILL noisy after 10 hours. Defeats the purpose of using a GPU renderer completely.

Looking forward to the new noise reduction facility when it comes.

Have you watched this video on render optimization?
