Question about C4D plugin activation

I notice that every time I open C4D the Octane plugin connects and activates. That's not a problem, but my question is...

What if my internet goes down, or for some reason the Octane licensing servers are offline—does this prevent me from rendering and using Octane?

If so, how can I prevent that?
