eGPU on Mac Pro

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has tried setting up an external GPU to a bin Mac Pro?
I'd like to get a chassie and a GTX 1080 ti so I could get Octane running on it.
I can't seem to find anyone using it though so I thought I'd ask here.

the specs for the Mac Pro (Late 2013) are;

Processor: 3.7 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon E5
Memory: 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics: AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB

Need to know if Nvidia drivers would work on it too.
Any advice would be awesome.
