Just a question, I have asked this on the Modo end, but didn't sound possible. But maybe it is with C4D. Is there a way to save out multple RENDER layers at a time? With lets say, a multi layer exr for each. So have a cube 1 on render layer one with the diffuse and relfection layer, save it as a exr. Then also, have like a second cube on render layer two and have it have its own exr file with reflection and diffuse.

Doesn't it have to calculate the entire scene anyways when it is doing the one render layer?

I am just trying to have to avoid rendering something twice. My biggest thing is when we do dof and motion blur in render, then having to edit them separately in post, we have to do it with render layers, but can only save one of the render layers at a time. Aka render twice.

Thanks!

Hi LFedit, you can automate the process with takes, but the process is the same as the Modo plugin, you need to render twice with Render Layers.

Darn... Is this something that would ever be possible? Wasn't I right though, doesn't it have to calculate everything when it is rendering anyways? Why couldn't it just save out another render layer? Wouldn't it be the same as changing the active render layer in the views in the octane viewport? It just switches..

Not arguing by any means, just like to wonder why on some things.

Thanks

Hi LFedit,
the mesh has to be treated in a different way, depending of the render layer settings.
Note this, if you make a change, and the render restarts, it means that the modification needs to be reloaded, if not, then it does not need another render.
