Hi Juanjo,

Any idea what is causing the end of the cylinder to look faceted? I'm using triplanar projection to set up this material and the concentric rings on the end is a single large texture.
I've tried all sorts of things but cannot get rid of the facets. Scene attached. Cheers, Andrew.

Yep, smoothing on. The actual scene (couldn't upload the actual parts) is using vertex normal smoothing.

I've found a work around by plugging a ripple procedural texture into the image texture node. For some reason the faceting is no longer present, which is odd because the procedural is converted into an image.

I'm glad you found solution (even if workaround) but please do send that scene (seems simple enough content) to Juan so he can check is it plugin or octane BUG.

Can you please upload the file again? The attached file seems corrupted.

Thanks,

I've uploaded a new set of files, including the procedural texture.
Hopefully these ones work for you?

Juanjo, it looks like the issue on the end of the cylinder was with my bump map :) silly me...

What exactly was wrong with your bump? I run into this occasionally too. I figured it was a glitch in the matrix! Sometimes IPR does it randomly but not terribly often during an actual render. *shrug*

It turned out the way I made the ring texture created small flats, which in turn created what I thought were artifacts.

I had projected lines onto a cone and the cone mesh was a bit coarse...

Now if someone has any suggestions for better texture sampling and moire pattern reduction in Octane, I am all ears :)
