Unclipped tonemapped image

Is there any way to render an image with a response filter enabled but unclipped in 32bit float?

At the moment either the picture has a tonemapping /response filter but its clipped (you cant expose down anymore in After Effects for example) or the picture is unclipped but the response filter is missing.

I just want the image I see in the IPR to be rendered in 32bit float and to look THE SAME when I open it in AE but be able to adjust the exposure up and down without ugly clipping.

Is this somehow possible? It's kinda driving me mad.
