Hey all,

I'm thinking about adding a 1080ti to my workstation, I'm using a 980ti for now and it seems like adding a second card is just on the edge of what my Corsair CX750M PSU can handle? I'm mainly using the machine for Octane rendering, but also sometimes particle simulations and occasional gaming. What do you think? I might ditch the sata drive if that'd help.

This is the full spec
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
i7 6700K
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 980Ti AMP Omega Edition
32gb RAM
1x ssd and 1x 5400rpm sata drive
Corsair CX750M PS

Enough. But no more than that.
3090, Titan, Quadro, Xeon Scalable Supermicro, 768GB RAM; Sketchup Pro, Classical Architecture.
Custom alloy powder coated laser cut cases, Autodesk metal-sheet 3D modelling.

Thanks! I'm also pondering to upgrade to a 3x gpu setup, either 3x980ti or mixed with one or two 1080tis - in that case a 1200W PSU would be sufficient, right?

More important is how many GPU power cables you have on a PSU. 1200W is enough for 4 gpus, but I always say get 1600W for lower relative load and quiet operation. 1600W EVGA P2 o T2 are top notch - very hard to get today.

I believe the maximum number of cards I can fit in the z170 pro gaming is 3, would you still recommend a 1600W for lets say a 3x 980ti setup? Lower relative load on the PSU means it would presumably last longer, or safer/more stable?

If you can afford this PSU it is worth every single penny with ECO button for silence. Last time I bought 1200W from Silverstone and gave it back due to noise
