Hi Paul,
1 - in daylight environment I can only modify the power of sun and sky together. It would be very useful if power of the sun and power of the sky were two distinct parameter.
2 - It would be useful to have direct light to use in place of the sun because, if I use sun with low altitude, sun color is reddish and its power decrease. Furthemore, if there was direct light, it could be used with hdri light (for example, a direct light in combination with a cloudy hdri to better control the light of the scene)
thanx a lot

Hi Fabrizio_s,
You could change the sunset color to solve your issue.
Did you have a look at the Rhino Octane manual about daylight?
https://docs.otoy.com/Rhinoceros_Plugin ... hlight=sun

Hi Paride,
yes, you are right but sunset color isn't so simple like to have 2 power values: 1 for the sun and 1 for the sky.

I do not think replacing the sun with a geometry emitter inside the Rhino plugin would not be a viable change, as the current sun and sky are linked in the Daylight Environment, so you cannot turn on off and have the other on.

Hi Paul,
ok...I know...this a sad news
About the second point: a direct light could be used together with an hdri to increase the light feature of Octane. So It would be possible to use an hdri for the sky and a direct light as the sun.
thanx a lot

If you don't want to use light from the HDRI, and just use the background, assign the HDRI map to the Visible Environment texture.

Yes Paul, I know this is possible but now I have to render some scenes for a kitchen catalogue.
HDRI are powerful to light the scene and often the best choice are cloudy hdri. But scandinavian style need a cloudy hrdri and a weak "sun" (a direct light would be perfect because I can control power, colour, soft shadows, rotation and so on)
These are some example of a great artist:
