Hi
I'm really wanting to create some renders that are similar to these great photographs by Shane Griffin using Octane in C4D.
If anyone was able to offer advice or point me to some tutorial that might help me that would be amazing - thank you.

Hi imurdochd. Whatever advice I give you here take with a grain of salt as I am not an expert. There is probably a better way of doing it but one easy way could be to use the new Triplaner Map texture node. You could plug in up to six color or texture nodes on your object and play around with different projections and blending angles. Also try the Fall Off node with that too.

Hi imurdochd.
here is my attempt with mixing two specular materials with a gradient in the amount:

playing with absorption, index and film, you can obtain different effects.
