Is it possible to save 16bit images. Whenever i choose 16bit *.iff images end up 8bit...

Is there a solution?

No, Octane 16 bit png format is not supported in the Maya plugin,
and that's too bad, it would be way more useful than all these 8 bits Maya legacy formats.

better to use exr 16bit then? is smaller size so would be large better then 16bit png's. but also keep in mind if use tonnemapping with PNG is pointless to save 16bit cause of the tonnemapping is clamping all at 8bit.just make sure you are working without tonnemapping and highlight compression this clamp you range on the files.
