Is it possible to import RIB or DAE into Octane at present. I tried to download the manual, but Adobe crashed, and it is dated October last year anyway.
Has this been made possible yet, and if not, when is it expected?
It would seem to be very difficult to build a scene using just OBJs, or is there an easy way to do this from say Poser or DAZ Studio?
Renderman or Collada support yet?

you can manualy export any scene currently from any 3D program that supports export to the lightwave .OBJ file format.
You would export the mesh and then open Octane Demo and import the Resultant OBJ file into Octane.
The new demo version 2.45 beta is due Friday so give that a try with any 3D program. Not sure if Daz or poser can export to OBJ i think they can.I don't use them I tend to use max.
The full version includes automated Exporters for a number of 3D programs , although currently Daz / Poser are not one of them.
Anyway , give it a try manually with the current or new version demo.

Hi,
Renderman / Collada is not supported yet, mainly as the priority to implement them is less important today,
as we now have a large collection of exporter plugins for many 3D apps with full animation export.
However, there is no support yet for Pozer and DAZ...
If you know anyone in a technical pozer/daz forum who would be interested in writing one, we can send him specs to do so.

Thanks for the replies. I will try OBJ again, and I managed to get the manual so I will have a look.
I don't know of anyone off-hand who could write a plugin for either Poser or DS, but I would think it would be a worthwhile project as they have a very large number of users between them.

Why is rib export 'less important' today ? As I read in Octane's spec, Full support for RenderMan RIB format for animation environments is supposed to be implemented and I hope it will not be a last minute not tested implementation. It was supposed to be there for v1 from the first announcement I read back in early beta times (now changed to v1.x). Rib support was one of the reasons I bought Octane, and reading now that you don't consider it as important is quite disappointing. I'm sorry, but using OBJ as main exporting solution is not really optimal.radiance wrote:Hi,

Octane is still in beta status and refractive is focused to extend and optimize the render system.
1.2.47 should be 0.2.47 but this don´t refers the state of development really.
Cheers, mib.

So we have to wait for a wile.Import of Collada .dae format **
Full support for RenderMan RIB format for animation environments **
** = Octane Render 1.x feature (available for free to V 1.0 license holders)
Cheers, mib.

I have to agree here, I am also anxiously waiting for RIB support. It too is one of the reasons I purchased Octane. I'm just hoping it comes sooner rather than later.
Win 7 Pro x64, Phenom 9600 Quad Core @ 2.44Ghz, MSI GTX 560 Ti
All my octane renders are from Daz Studio or Carrara.
I have a custom script that exports the scene in single click and working on making it automatically launch Octane. I had a bit of problem with the camera, but based on a recently posted script for another exporter may have a working solution.

Hi Guys,
Finding someone interested in developing a DAZ or Poser integration script or plugin is a much more viable solution at this time,
it's less work, so will be available sooner, and will be considerably easier and more straightforward to use than RIB, which has it's share of complexity and non-standardization in implementations issues.
It would really help if you could make a post in any possible DAZ / Poser community forums to request it,
ask if anyone is interested in developing an integration.
This need not be a charity, the person implementing it, if done propperly, could charge a fee for it, and be motivated to develop it in a short timeframe, and keep developing and maintaining/supporting it.
Sorry we cannot do more at this time, we currently have hundreds of requests from many customers, and most customers urgently need the core render engine to be finalized and remain competitive in the market. Software Development is dynamic and has to adapt to the market, circumstances, customer demand and competition. If we don't adhere to this philosophy, OctaneRender would not have been around and have a leading position in areas of speed and interactivity as it currently has.
We are more than interested in providing support and help where needed in case someone comes forward and wants to develop an integration.
Also, the way commercial markets work, if there is enough demand to the authors of the packages, there should be supply.
If there are many DAZ / Poser users out there that would like to see close integration with OctaneRender,
do a post/poll/petition with enough people and make it visible to the companies who develop it, and point them to the fact that we do have SDK licensing options available now (check our recent news article in the News forum or linked to on our homepage...

I'd be interested in hearing about your script, Tugpsx, if you're willing to share it. I tend to have to reset a lot of materials when I bring something in from Daz Studio and anything to help speed up the process would be fantastic.Tugpsx wrote:All my octane renders are from Daz Studio or Carrara.
