i have a couple of 8k textures loaded up.
editing or changing any of the parameters, reconnecting the nodes or any action whatsoever is extremely slow, even when auto update is off.
it does not seem to matter if the node is actually used or not.

i really like the images i get with octane but these hurdles absolutely kills my workflow.

Hi crackfox,
Are you using a video card only for monitors and operating system? Or is it for Octane also?

hi paride and thanks for the reply.

i am not sure what you mean but i have a single video card - titan, that runs everything on my system. tbh was not aware i could allocate different tasks to different gpu.

i have had a 270mb mesh and four 8k textures, one of them being an actual psd file weighing some 300mb.
i started the scene fresh and instead of using a dense mesh i am using displacement for detail and have no issues.
maybe the psd was the culprit fwiw. its just odd that any change im material editor would result in hangups.

a side question: can you tell me or point to some best practices for octane rendering. im planning a new rig and am unsure what the ideal configuration would be, and yes i have searched for the info, but its hard to find the latest info. any tip is appreciated

Hi crackfox,
when Octane is running, your whole pc lags, not only by editing the materials.
This is because your Video card manages the monitor (even two or three monitors, maybe 4k) and the operating system, not only 3dsMax uses your GPU, but google chrome, photoshop etc.
If you are using large textures and mesh 3dsMax eats a lot of resources for the viewport.
To solve these performance and delays problems you should read this.
