A tiny feature request

Hello Simon!

Is it possible to include a feature, in the plug in or the main program, that starts a certain action when a given amount of samples is reached?
This action could be the start of an external program or the sending of an email, a message via Telegram or Pusbullet or SMS via Twilio.
We already have this feature in the 3D printing community using Octoprint. 3D prints can take as long as a good 3D rendering.
