Anyone played around with this with any success?
I have some stills, as well as an animation using the CityKit plugin, and am getting MASSIVE fireflies no matter how long I let it go. I imagine this is from the specularity/reflection in all the windows of the buildings? I tried playing around with the "hot removal" , but it still remains un-useable. Not the end of the world, as I am still using Octane for most of my other projects- just would love to be able to use it with the citykit stuff. Thanks!

I have it. Love it but in Octane, to render a big city which includes a lot of geometry, textures and materials WILL take a lot of time. I'm on a GTX285. What card to you have?
I'd love to render big cities but I think a FAST card with LOTS of memory is needed. There's not much of a choice on a mac right now so I rest my case...

I have 2 EVGA SC GTX 480s , so that's 1.5 GB Vram, then, I believe? It didn't APPEAR that I was even close to running out of RAM, but I'll check again.
I am still playing around with it, in between waiting for C4D to finish my latest revision of the city fly through... (with GI and AO at 720p, I am at around 70 hours for 800 frames) Just seems so matter how long it goes, the fireflies never go away, or even multiply...

Well, I don't know what the materials are or if you have modified them to make them more suitable for Octane. Are you using the path tracing or direct lighting kernel? In path tracing you could for example reduce the path depth to 8 or so and play with the Russian roulette probability (rr_prob). And of course with the materials: For example a specularity of 1 is not a good idea.cheeweezz777 wrote:I have 2 EVGA SC GTX 480s , so that's 1.5 GB Vram, then, I believe? Direct lighting should be less susceptible to fireflies, but of course you can always create scenes that don't work with specific render algorithms.

Thanks Marcus-
I had only JUST began to re-work the materials... Once this current render is finished over the weekend, I plan on re-focusing on the Octane+CityKit combo again. I was using the Direct Lighting, but I hadn't thoroughly gone through all the building and window materials- thanks for the excellent product support. I'll update on my progress for anyone curious on the results! Cheers!!

Just a quick update-
I squashed my city down to a handful of buildings, along with the other elements in the scene. Using Direct Lighting, and tweaking the materials, I was able to solve the firefly issue. Just took some material tweaking, as suggested. Thanks for the suggestions!
