I made a little table that compares the 10 series cards to figure out the lowest cost per CUDA core.
GPU \ CUDA Cores \ Price \ $perCC
GTX 1060 3GB \ 1152 \ $199.00 \ $0.17
GTX 1060 6GB \ 1280 \ $266.99 \ $0.21
GTX 1070 \ 1920 \ $409.99 \ $0.21
GTX 1080 \ 2560 \ $669.99 \ $0.26
TITAN Z \ 3584 \ $1,200.00 \ $0.33
For the cost of a single TITAN you could get 6 1060s and have 1.9x more cores. Or get 3 and have the same number of cores and $600 in your pocket.

But this leads me to the question I can't find an answer for... are all CUDA cores created equally? Are 3x1060s (3456 cores) the same as 1xTITAN (3584 cores)?

FYI, the 1050 and 1050Ti are worse in the $perCC than the 1060 so I didn't include them in the table
You'd also have to factor in that most Motherboards don't support 6 double slot cards, forcing you to get ones that do and spending more there... but the 3x1060 vs 1xTITAN is more interesting.

Hi Critters,
yes you can compare CUDA cores, but only within the same architecture, eg only Pascal GPUs or Maxwell and so on.
To make the thing a bit more complicated, you should have to consider also the VRAM quantity in some way and the speed should be influenced by CUDA cores for 75% and by memory speed for 25% roughly.

Interesting topic.

Don't forget you also have to factor in the cost of additional pc hardware you need to support 6 or 12 cards instead of just one or two titans. You also pay for less heat and and less used space with the titans I guess.

Thanks guys,

Yeah, you would have to spend more on other hardware to support 6 GPUs, but 3x GTX 1060 6GB should fit in a standard case and with standard desktop hardware and cost less than a single Titan. Good to know the info you shared bepeg4d.
