6850K + 3 GPU System for OCTANE, 3D/2D Animation/Render/Compositing
Hey,
RATE this build please
I am looking to upgrade my system. I am dealing with heavy 3D and 2D scenes in Cinema 4D and After Effects. I need a multiple GPU system with Octane Benchmark 300 or higher.

We just upgraded our studio with 2 similar machines, and there is hardly anything to say about it, the cpu supports 4 gpus, so you can even extend it later, the only problem I see is air cooling.
We bought Evga hybrids a month ago when they were about 400€, but it seems they are going out of production

I was looking into the motherboards. The thing is x99s SLI PLUS supports quad GPU but I dont know if they would fit.ratata wrote:We just upgraded our studio with 2 similar machines, and there is hardly anything to say about it, the cpu supports 4 gpus, so you can even extend it later, the only problem I see is air cooling.

What mobo are you using in your quad 980TI setups? I read that pluggin the cards as x8 or x16 doesn't make Octane Benchmark difference
So could you them up let say; x16 x8 x8 x8?
But I would also need an extra x4 for my m.2 SSD ?
I am a bit confused on this.
Thanks for the help
We went with GA-X99P-SLI, the pci-e works 8x,8x,8x,8x and we also have a m.2 disks in and they run as advertised, so if that requires pci-e x4 then I guess it is running at that
As far as fitting goes, evga 980ti hybrid on 4th slot blocks almost all connections, so I had to disassemble the "turn on" power connector and connect it pin by pin, everything else - audio, usb front, sys fan... are not connected at the bottom, but I found out this varys with cards.
At the moment I actually placed a stock 980 gtx on the 4th slot to have it for the screens, and it clears a bit better, so I can hook up everything but front case usb...
"So could you them up let say; x16 x8 x8 x8?"
check the manual, in gigabytes, it clearly says it will run on 8x,8x,8x,8x if all slots are occupied.
and a quick note about this mobo, it doesn't not support 6xxx series on rev.1, so you need to ask the vendor to flash the bios to latest ver... of course we learned that the hard way
