I've just got IT to sign in as admin so I could install LightWave + Octane plugin on my new workstation.

We placed the octane-files into the bin directory as outlined in the readme-file. The plugin-file itself is in the support\plugins\ directory, in its own folder named Octane.

This didn't work out.

So I tried moving the plugin (.p file) to a different hard drive and folder, assuming it would work. Nope, still get the same error.

I restarted LightWave, and then I got a new message, as shown below. The Octane plugin is not listed in the "Edit plugins" window.
Any takers?

Hi,

At some point you are mixing an the plugin .p file with an old (or newer) Octane.dll/Octane.dat files, or you are not replacing the tbb.dll in the LightWave/bin folder. You must be sure that all the files come from the same plugin .zip file.

Anyway for the next build we are going to change the plugin deploy structure. Now you can put the Octane.dll, Octane.dat and tbb.dll in the same folder used by the plugin .p file, and remove the Octane.dll/.dat files from the LightWave/bin directory.

So in short: remove all the Octane.dll and Octane.dat files from your LightWave/bin folder, and put Octane.dll, Octane.dat and tbb.dll in the same folder used by the plugin .p file (of course, all the files from the same plugin .zip distribution file).

I think that the new plugin deploy structure, with all the Octane files inside one folder and without need to install files in the LW/bin directory is going to be easier to use, and less prone to problems due to mix files from different versions.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

I can assure you it all came from the same zip file, so there is no mixing of plugin versions.
Any ETA on the new plugin structure?

In the mean time I will ask the IT dept. to log in so I can delete the octane dll/dat and tbd files and add them again.

You can make it yourself. Simple add the Octane.dll, Octane.dat and tbb.dll files to the same folder where you have the plugin .p file. But to avoid problems you should remove the Octane files from your LightWave/bin folder.

Ah, ok. But keep the tbb.dll in the bin file?
I'll have IT sign in after a short lunch break.

Yes, the tbb.dll file must be in the LightWave/bin folder. It is used also by LightWave, it can't be removed.

Huh..
I have deleted teh octane.dll, octane.dat files from the bin folder, and I removed the Octane folder with the LWOctane_3.0_2115.3_x64.p file and menu.cfg file.

I extracted the files from the zip into a new folder on a different hard drive, and tried both adding only the .p file. I got the same message as in the screenshot above.

Then I tried "scan directory".

Hmm, I am not sure what could be problem. Perhaps it is not a good idea to don't add the Octane files to the LightWave/bin folder yet.

What version of the plugin are you trying to install?

We are going to start again ... please, download the latest build, and copy the Octane.dll, Octane.dat and tbb.dll files to the LightWave/bin folder.

Be sure that you don't have other Octane.dll in your system or with the plugin .p file. You should have only the one inside the .zip file.

The file I have here is Octane-for-LW_3.03.3.0_Windows.zip.
So I will download the one you linked to above and try again.

The system is fresh (been using it for two weeks, but with Modo, Zbrush and Maya). I installed LightWave 2015.3 on it just today, right before I wrote the first post.

Wow! That version worked.
I did not move anything into the program files folder though (been bugging IT way more than I feel comfortable with today) :geek:
