I am trying to render two layer masks. The first one is the main one with most of the objects in my scene. The second is a select few objects. I need to do simple color correction these objects in AE, hence the layer mask. I can see the two render layers in the LV but when I render to the picture viewer, I see all of the objects on layer 1 and nothing (black) on layer 2.

What am I missing?

Notes:

I have watched and re-watched In Life Thrill's Multi-Layer Passes, Part 4: Layer Masks. He turns off the alpha channel before rendering to the picture viewer, I have done this and it does not solve the problem.

The objects are still parametric C4D tube objects (not editable polygons). The animation is on the parameters, so I cannot make them editable. Does that matter?

Hey aoktar! Sorry to pull you away from your work...

I included an image with my post. It shows Render Settings - Render Passes tab, Octane settings - Kernel tab, one of my objects with the Octane object tag, the Octane live viewer result, and the (different) Picture Viewer result.

Here is the link: http://imgur.com/a/ar32r

To further clarify what I am trying to do: I need to isolate the yellow objects in my scene to adjust the color in After Effects, so I am trying to create a layer mask containing just matte for just the yellow objects. When I select one of the Render Layers, I see the correct result in the Live Viewer. However, when I deactivate Render Layers and render to a file using the Picture Viewer, I get the Beauty Render PSD plus a layered PSD. This PSD contains the two layers, objMaskID1 and objMaskID2. objMaskID1 contains a matte of all of the objects and objMaskID2 is completely black.

I feel like I'm missing a basic step, or checkbox, somewhere.

Please let me know if I need to show a different setting or view.

Thanks!

I can't see your main render settings. I believe your mistake is here. You should read manual for details and examine to be comfortable on next jobs.
