Hello everyone!
My name is Nicolas Plaire. I'm french but living in New Zealand for almost ten years. I work as a freelance motion graphics designer for various New Zealand companies, including TVNZ.
Recently I've shot a short film that will use Octane Render extensively. I've bought an Octane license a few years ago but I've only started to use it recently. I love this renderer to death. It's an amazing piece of software that unlocks previously unavailable renders to indie CG artists.
Here is a recently made a teaser for the short film

The renders are still a work in progress and I was wondering if anyone had tips and/or willing to help me going to the next level, especially regarding the textures/materials. And even lighting! I've modeled the little guy using Cinema 4D.
Also, I'm thinking of adding a GTX1070 or 1080 to my current 980 to speed up the rendering process. The 1080 is still fairly pricey and I know those cards haven't been really optimized yet for Octane, but do you think the improved rendering times on the 1080 will justify the price difference between this card and the more "affordable" 1070. I mean how much improvement are we potentially looking at between the 1070 and the 1080? Or even compared to the 980.
Note that the intro with the TVs were rendered in Element 3D not in Octane, but that shot won't be featured in the final film, it was just created for the teaser.
Enjoy!
PS: I would love to visit those guys at Otoy in Auckland and buy you beers!
