I asked this in the Cinema 4D plugin forum, but no one's ever seen it there, so I figured I would post here as well in case it's something that anyone has scene with Octane in general....

I don't know if this is normal or not, but I wanted to make sure I'm not missing out on some more render speed. Whenever I send an animation to render, the first frame will render roughly twice as fast as all of the frames that follow. For example, on my current project the first frame will render at 12ms/sec and take about 1.5 minutes to finish and the rest of the frames will render at about 5ms/sec and take about 3:30 to finish. Why would the first frame go so much faster? Also, it doesn't matter where in the animation I start the render, so it's not a matter of a particular frame being quicker to render. It's just whatever frame renders first. I would love to figure out if I could be rendering every one of these frames at 12ms/sec.

Hi Joey,
it sounds weird, in general, the first frame should be a bit longer because of the upload of the entire scene in GPUs, while the others should be a bit faster because of less data to load between frames, and there should not be a big difference in terms of max/sampling
I'm guessing, do you have unusual motion blur settings?
Could you share a simple example scene that shows this behavior on your system?

Yeah, very weird. That faster time includes the 15 seconds it takes to load the scene. As far as I know, I have all motion blur turned off. I thought that might have been an issue. I tried to think of anything that might care about surrounding frames that I could turn off. I will send you a link to the scene. Aoktar is also looking into it.

Thanks!
