V3 is here, but no plug-in yet... are there at this moment any benefits when rendering in Rhino?

Cool.
I am just on my way to a client where I need to install V3.
You made it just in time to release the Rhino plug.
Great!

Does the previous plug in use the v3 stand alone in the background?

You don't need Octane Standalone installed in order to use the plugin, however whilst OTOY transfer over to the single sign on system, you will potentially have fewer issues if the plugin and Standalone are the same version if Standalone is installed.
