Hi!

First post here, :-) Long time Modo user, new to Octane render.

I noticed some workflow issue with the directional light and wandered if this is a known issue.
Haven't found this in the limitations or on the forum.

When you load a scene into OctaneRender with a directional light, the settings (physical sun) of the light
stay loaded in OctaneRender, even if you close the scene, and open a new scene that has
no Directional Light.

So, if you work on a scene without a directional light and setup the render, then load another
scene, for instance to transfer an object, and this scene has a directional light. If you update
the first scene again, it will look different because it loaded the settings of the directional light
of the second scene.

So the (physical sun) settings of a directional light don't seem to be (always) scene dependant ?

Does it mean you always need a directional light in Modo scene (as best practice) when using the Octane Render ?

Greetings,
Mules

Hi Mules - the default setting is to use the Daylight Environment, rather than the Texture Environment. If you would prefer the latter for new scene, then open a blank Modo scene, set the Octane Texture to a Texture Environment, and save that scene as the default modo scene (in the Modo preferences).

If you have the environment set to Daylight, you can F6, load a lat/long IBL, and the plugin should automatically flip from Daylight to Texture Environment.
