Hi, I don't think that if you buy the V2 now you will get the V3 for free:
it has ever been that the switch from the eprevious version to the next one, had a sort of "special price" (upgrading price). If you switch from V1 to V3 you will have an extra cost that is the price of V2 (no matter if you have never used it).
...this means that you should not find any difference (or maybe very little) in switch to the V2 now and in the 15th of May switch again to the V3, or wait until the 15th of May and upgrade directly from V1 to V3.
Cheers,
Paolo

Paolo is right, it's the same price:
v2 + upgrade to v3 = new v3
v2 + upgrade to v3 = new v3

Yes, there should be no price difference if you buy V3 new or buy V2 and then upgrade to V3 when it is out next month.paoloverona wrote:Hi, I don't think that if you buy the V2 now you will get the V3 for free:

If you are on V1 and want to update to V3, please update to V2 before May 15th. We are not planning to offer V1->V3 upgrades. We will be phasing V1->V2 upgrades shortly after V3 launches.
We are open to user feedback on this topic.

I find this a bit of a shot in the foot so to say, I bought V1 to help support this great product, I was one of the first to buy. and suddenly as I have had no use to upgrade to V2 im having to pay full price if I want V3, which I have not been able to trial as i do not have V2, so some concession would be welcome as V3 sounds likes its shaping up nicely, for us early dopters

There may be a grace period (possibly 2-3 months) where we will maintain 2.x as we wait for all 3.0 plug-ins to catch up. During this time we might be open to helping V1 users out while they demo V3.maxd wrote:"Yes, there should be no price difference if you buy V3 new or buy V2 and then upgrade to V3 when it is out next month.

It would be great, for us users that are still on V1 because of plug-in restrictions (Softimage still use 1.0 SDK), can go directly to V3 with a extended grace period. I haven't upgraded because I don't want to. I simply cant use a newer Octance version just yet (Don't have any use for standalone at all :/)
So please email all users that are still on V1, when its the last call to go to V3. I have multiple licenses, but really have no use for 2.x (or 3.0 for that matter) until the plug-in integration works with a later SDK. But also I dont want to miss the boat and be locked out.
