Hi All,
we've noticed this problem a couple of times through all Maya plugin versions since 7.4.
Create any type of Geo in Maya and apply an Octane material via Hypershade or viewport will assign the selected octane material but will not remove the default Lambert material.
And since you cant remove the default Lambert it will render the Lambert instead of the Octane Material.
OS: Windows 7 and 10 x64
Maya: 2015 SP6 and Maya 2016 SP5
Octane for Maya versions: All the way from 7.4 to 7.22
Random: Assign Octane material doesnt remove default Lambert

Hi Simon,
no matter how hard I try to break the material assignment, I can't do it.
I tested with the simple geometry from the polygons shelf and both the viewport material assignment (right click menu) and the Hypershade assignment (right click menu).
Anyways the plugin just registers the Octane materials with Maya, setting them is done by Maya.
Maybe there is the problem, because until now I did not find a place in our code that is directly involved,
but I keep looking!
Any more clues to this one?
Best,
Kai

I've run in to this quite a few times as well. Not really sure when it happens.
For now you can manually delete the connections in the hypershade / connectionEditor between the initialShadingGroup and the object you want to assign your material to and all is fine again.
