Add an option in the render settings, enabled by default, to treat every object in IPR as if they had the "Reshapable Proxy" geometry type.
Different Geometry types only make sens for final rendering, not IPR. This feature would make feel Octane for maya more interactive out of the box, like the other plugins.
* EDITED:
After reflection and discussion with Jolbertoquini, better to implement this feature this way :
Add this option somewhere :
"OVERRIDE GEOMETRY TYPE FOR IPR :"
with these entries: " NONE , GLOBAL, SCATTER, MOVABLE PROXY, RESHAPABLE PROXY" and the default would be "NONE".

what about the instance?we need scatter don't you? if is possible to overwrite way not!calus wrote:Add an option in the render settings, enabled by default, to treat every object in IPR as a reshapable proxy geometry type.

Well, It seems to me that maya instances or geometry from instancer are always seen as instances by octane (except if they have the "Global" geometry type : all meshes with the "Global" geometry type are merged into one big mesh wich is obviously not a good idea for instances).
The only purpose of the "Scatter" geometry type in Maya is for static geometry to not be of the "Global" type.
So treating every geometry in IPR as "reshapable proxy" won't consider instances as non-instances.
By the way, treating every geometry as "Reshapable proxy" is how IPR works by default with Iray for maya, vray-rt, Redshift or Octane for C4d for example...
And as I said this should be an option in render setting enabled by default and if for some reason we need to check in IPR the behavior of the defined geometry types , we just disable the option.

Personally for us here for IPR would be good to have instances working with animation and then is good we have 1000 of optimization about instances to save GPU memory so have all as a not scatter (instance term for standalone) will be a waste time and spend money in better GPU with more memory personally this render engine they use different method for memory... I think is interisting but with option to overwrite then.calus wrote:Well, It seems to me that maya instances or geometry from instancer are always seen as instances by octane (except if they have the "Global" geometry type : all meshes with the "Global" geometry type are merged into one big mesh wich is obviously not a good idea for instances).

no what I'm saying if you use reshapable mode activate as default the instances doesn't work tat all, which is a big issue when we use at scenes to have more memory available. so for me I don't think s default would help us a lot. will only give issues on the workflowcalus wrote:Hi Jo,
Not sure to understand what you are saying here, do you mean in IPR in the current version of the plugin, animated instances are not treated as instances ?
because at references we need make sure they overwrite on the light scenes. as a workflow with different department may give some issues to preview cause reshapable mesh are not instances.

Are you sure of this ? because I think instances with resphapable proxy geometry type, are still instances, deformable instances but still, 1 geometry is exported just once by frame not all geometry of each instance.Jolbertoquini wrote: no what I'm saying if you use reshapable mode activate as default the instances doesn't work tat all
But I see your point, in your case, geometry type are very optimized to work well as a default true different departement so the default should stay no global overriding of geometry type, yes you are right, better to help workflow than newbies.
In this case this could be just an option in render setting : "OVERRIDE GEOMETRY TYPE FOR IPR :" with these entries: " NONE , GLOBAL, SCATTER, MOVABLE PROXY, RESHAPABLE PROXY" and the default would be NONE, what do you think ?

Yes I think is better make sense, on that way but I don't think reshapable at maya plug are working the instances? I have weird result is looking like particles instances and polygon instances doesn't react on the same way at the plug.calus wrote:Are you sure of this ? because I think instances with resphapable proxy geometry type, are still instances, deformable instances but still, 1 geometry is exported just once by frame not all geometry of each instance.Jolbertoquini wrote: no what I'm saying if you use reshapable mode activate as default the instances doesn't work tat all

Hey Jo,
I continue the discussion about instances and do some test, in this new Topic:

Unfortunately, this topic never went any further.
I cannot believe that we have to click on all materials separately and change the GEO-type for all objects in the scene.
Every competitor engine out there renders standard based on your predefined smooth mesh you have created in Maya or at least a common option applicable for all your objects in the scene.
Absolute showstopper and not production ready -
