Hi,
Is there a maximum number of particles that can be rendered in octane, or a maximuml number of object that Octane can handle ?
In PF render result I tried single mesh, meshes per particles, I increased upper limit of particles to 10000000.
But I can't render 2 millions particles. I tried geometry, shape instance,...
Anybody can help ?
Thanks

Hi,

Apologies for the belated response. The issue that you are having seems to be hardware-related, rather than specific to the plugin.

There is a polygon limit on scenes, though you are well within that with 10 million particles. You seem that you are being limited by your VRAM.

The specs in your signature - could you confirm whether these are still up-to-date? Octane does not use the combined VRAM of your GPU's - your rendering VRAM is equal to the lowest VRAM of the cards you assign to render. The GTX 580 sits quite low (around 1.5 GB if I'm not mistaken), so that would explain the < 2 million limit you are hitting at the moment. Try rendering with just the TITAN card, and see if that resolves your limit issue.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Azen

Hi, thanks for answer...
Here is a screen grab of my problem. My computer is a i7 5930K 32 Go ram, one Titan, and one Titan X.
Octane render version : 2.24.2 - 2.13.

Hi,

Thanks for that. That bug does seem very curious. I will attempt to replicate this on a similar machine and get back to you by tomorrow. It looks like it isn't crashing MAX for you, and should be appearing in your viewport. Hopefully there is only a simple adjustment required.

Cheers,
Azen

Hi,

Apologies for the delay.

Have you attempted to render this with only the TITAN X activated? The TITAN X has double the VRAM of the TITAN, so try using only the X card.

The currently available test machine only has 16 GB system memory, which is having a hard time all the meshes when I duplicate your setup. I did notice that, after running your setup on the lower RAM, it shows nothing in the viewport at all - you seem to be experiencing a lesser version of this same issue, though you still get something showing to your larger RAM count. You may be loading more geometry into your scene than your system memory is willing to handle. Have you attempted to render particles with 2d geometry and still hit your issue at less than 2 million?

Cheers,
Azen
