Hi guys,
how do you use backplates in octane render for C4D ?
i use often HDRI's but I don't understand how to use backplates.
thanks !
How to use backplates in octane ?
Hi,
do you mean something like this?:
https://docs.otoy.com/#51Using%20The%20Shadow%20Catcher
or better this?

thanks,
I know that.
I just want to reproduce the background fonction in c4d.
If i create an object, i want to integrate infront of a background.

Perfect, then you need only to activate the matte option of a specular material assigned to the floor for the first technique:
or use the object tag to define different render layers and activate the proper option in the render settings:

Ok, thanks,
I will try the matte option first.
So I create a diffuse material with matte ckeck and after I apply this material to what in order to make a background ?
thanks and sorry for my newbee questions...

Hi,
I tried with a plane or polygon in the floor and with a diffuse material with matte enabled, there's nothing in octane render live viewver.
but it appears if I uncheck "matte" option.
So if I understand, the only way to make a background is to apply a texture to a plane and rotate/scale it at 90° ?
thanks

Hi,
the matte option or the render layer method are used to get the contact shadows (and more) from objects composed over a background (HDR or image). If you want to use a background image in C4D-Octane, just use a standard Background c4d object with a standard c4d shader material, put your background image in the color channel, activate the "Alpha channel" option in the kernel settings and that's it
This the only case where a c4d material is needed inside c4d-octane

Hi, ok thanks.
I will try this evening to create a background c4d object with a standard c4d shader material.
Is it the same way for animated background (video sequence or jpeg sequence ) ?

Yes, but only image sequences are supported, not video file format
