sorry this is a specific 3ds max question - i hope it's ok.

in sketchup i can create components, and in revit i can create groups - both works as copies of the same group of objects - if i change one group / component, then all instances are updated.

i have tried to do the same in 3ds max - creating groups - copy them as instances, but they seem not to be 'connected'.

what am i'm doing wrong or misunderstand? :-/

thanks

- i think that's how it behaves - if you've set everything as octane proxy and duplicated as instance

.. so far I've found than inside a group you can change the object on a sublevel (editpoly) , then it will update, if you just move an object inside the group it will not update ..

- you could probably do an edit poly on entire group and change one object inside - but maybe you'll loose the proxy ability to behave as an instance (will take more memory) or move the one object in edit poly mode - just moving it as and object will not update instances..
- if someone knows a good workflow I'm interested as well
