This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for Carrara 2.24 - RELEASE CANDIDATE.

Notice. Pending any reported bugs/major issues this will be the final BETA release. I intend to release this software by the end of December 2015. The price will go up then.

Also note that you will need to re-enter your OctaneLive credentials into the new About/Activation dialog in order to start using the plug-in again with this version. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Carrara Version
This version requires Carrara 8/8.5. This version runs on 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. The .NET 4.5 Framework or higher is required.

If you have a support issue, please provide the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win 7, 8, 8.1, 10)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- Carrara version
- OctaneRender for Carrara version (ie. 2.24.0080)
- List what other plugins you have installed for Carrara
- The most important part of resolving a problem is me being able to re-produce that problem. So please provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

Change Log
- For the Change Log see here.

Changes Since 2.24.0079
- The number of supported hair groups has been changed from 10 to 32.
- Gamma in the Octane Color Correction shader now has 3 decimal places.
- Added new About/Activation dialog to the Edit->Octane menu. This dialog replaces the OctaneLive tab in the Octane Settings dialog.
- Added new Render Target settings dialog. This dialog is opened by selecting the Scene and clicking the Edit button under Octane Render Target. This dialog replaces the Render Target tab in the Octane Settings dialog.

Changes Since 2.24.0080
- Fixed problem in Render Target settings where dropdown lists showed duplicate entries.
- The last selected tab is now remembered (for the current Carrara session).

Changes Since 2.24.0081
- Fixed problem in Render Target window where Kernel picker and Info Channel Type picker were tied together.
- Fixed problem in Render Target window where some kernel settings were being ignored or had incorrect default values.
- In Render Target window, added up/down buttons to Imager Response picker.

Known Issues
- Carrara can crash when consolidating materials. (Edit->Remove Unused Masters->Consolidate Duplicate Shaders) The exact cause of this issue is still unknown as there is no reliable repeat case and I have not, myself, been able to reproduce this issue. If you can find a repeat case then I will reward you with great praise. It is highly recommended that you save you scene and close the ORVP before trying to consolidate.

Thanks for the new version and addressing some of the (admittedly very minor) issues. I think that it is in a great state to be fully released.

One issue I noticed is that the Response Curves are listed twice - interestingly they do not even give the same response with each version of the film type!

The new render target is nicely presented and arranged, although being launched from the Carrara interface rather than the Octane interface means that it is no longer always on top, and lists revert back to the top each time they are opened (and the window always launches to the Kernel tab after closing). Not inssues as such, just need to get used to the new way of working.

P.S. Will you be publicising that the price will increase? A note to the Daz Forum might be well received.

Thanks for the feedback Phil, I'll look into the response curve issue asap. I'll see if I can do anything about remembering the last tab too. I don't think there is anything I can do about the drop down lists though but I'll take a look.

Hmm, now where did that DAZ forum thread go...?

Slightly more up to date discussion here:

There has also been a lot of discussion recently in this thread, particularly about optimizing skin shaders which has been a very interesting discussion:

The problem is that is it worth buying this plugin considering the dark future of Carrara? Is it better to rather invest in the plugin for DAZ Studio as this program will certainly continue to be developed by DAZ? Nevertheless you have done an excellent job for Carrara. In these conditions, it is difficult for me to make my choice.

To my mind, the Octane plugin gives Carrara a whole new lease of life. It provides a modern and very fast and high quality rendering solution (on top of Carrara's already good rendering capabilities) which is very well integrated with Carrara's interface and workflow. You can of course still model, rig, pose, etc as before, and features such as duplication, replication and dynamic hair are still unmatched in Daz Studio but supported within Octane (which itself continues to develop!). Yes Daz Studio has Genesis 3 figures but I would expect it won't be long before these are available and usable within Carrara too. So while it is entirely your decision, don't be too eager to write off Carrara.

Just so that I am clear on this, do you mean that the price will go up for NEW purchases of the plugin? If we already have a licence we just need to re-put in the Username/password to activate it?

Yes, the new price is for new licenses only. If you already own a beta license then you DO NOT need to buy a new license.
