Hi all (octane Devs inc. Although I know you're busy),
Is it worth buying Quixel/Substance Painter(SP) with the imminent release of the photoshop plugin included with Octane 3?
Looks in the demo video like Te PS plugin was being used in CS5.5; and it allows direct painting/modifying of textures which live updates the Liveviewer... this seems like the perfect workflow for me.
Ideally you paint an unwrapped texture (by layer mapped to input pins) in PS, and the plugin feeds the updated material to octane, once happy with the asset save (in octane) & drop into a scene....
Presumably Quixel/SP can do more; but since all I want to do is paint dirt/variation onto a single object material (rather than using 'seamless' tiling maps like I do now) I'm figuring I should just save my money for the O3 upgrade?
By the way: indie pricing 40% off at allegorithmic this weekend.

scroll right the way to the bottom: see the video; pretty much exactly what I want to do; except I'll be painting dirt onto my shiny building map

That video simply show an automatic refresh in Octane when you modify a texture in Photoshop. Doesn't add any tool for creating the actual texture.prehabitat wrote:Any experience/opinion either way Rikk?
Quixel Suite and Substance Painter are full packages dedicated to the semi-automatic creation of textures, with tons of tools and features that Photoshop alone doesn't have, so I would not compare the Octane Plugin with those, unless such plugin will have many more features that aren't shown in the video.
