MacPro 5,1 more than 4 GPU's

Hey guys,

i'm running a MacPro 5,1 with an internal GTX 970 and 3 additional GPU's via an amfeltec GPU Splitter.
However, when i try to set up an additional 4th GPU into the amfeltec cluster it just won't show up on my system - no matter what card i use, its always the 4th in the cluster.
I remember reading something about GPU limitation of OSX or MacPros in particular but cant find these information anywhere.

Can anyone can tell me if there is such a limitation of GPU's or give me a link with confirmed information?
