Otoy, please get rid of the 1 hour license re-activation

This is very frustrating, especially for those of us that travel/work remote.

When I'm on the road, which is often, I would like to build scenes on my laptop, and then kick them off to my workstation at home (which has all the GPU power) using teamviewer. However, I have to WAIT A FULL HOUR before I can start my renders which might take hours themselves. This is not ideal. Please fix this, other software does not do this. You simply check in/out licenses.

How good is your remote connection?

I generally build my scenes on my workstation via Teamviewer on my laptop/surface... battery life is significantly better if you're not modelling directly on your portable anyway.... Just a thought...

I actually use my phone connection (shared via USB) while travelling on an express train for 1hr!!... amazingly fast (props to Teamviewer!)

Hey there,

same problem here.
I have two Computers,,, one at home and one at office.
Some times I am working at home and some times at office.
I need only 15 minutes to get to the office or back.
Every time i am moving from home to office, or back, I am forced to make a coffeebreak, because of the cooldown timer!

I asked Otoy to get rid of this senseless cooldown timer and that it would be enough to activate and deactivate licenses,,, like many other software,,, 3D Coat, Substance Designer, Substance Painter, a.s.o. .
The answer was, that it is important to prevent piracy or shared usage.

Thank you very much, prehabitat, to bringing in the Teamviewer!
Now the argument about using cooldowns against piracy is totaly [OBSOLETE].

I will definetly go that way with the teamviewer if Otoy doesn't change this annoying and forcing cooldown procedure.
It is legal and I can also use the more powerfull Computer to render,,, and best of all,,, you don't have to deactivate/activate or are forced to make a coffee break!

If some wants to share, he will find a way,,, like the way with teamviewer!
At the end only the customers are punished,,, again.

We are working on new options as we get closer to launching V3, including inexpensive secondary floating licences.

Also, if streaming matters, would a system like the one we use on this website to live stream V3 demo be of use it it were built into Octane itself? It would perform better than TV. If you have Autodesk remote, our streaming tech is built into that too for P2P streaming.

I don't why it is that period of time specifically. It is not a part of the stack I am familiar with. I will look into it further and post back here.

For what it's worth I think the limitation is that the activation server will only process one activation of each licence per hour.

I have not done extensive testing but if I leave my licence activated at work when I shut down my workstation on Friday, then several hours/1day later I can deactivate trough Te web and activate at home instantly....

That said, if licence is active & workstation on I think the 'phone-home' activity counts as an 'activation' so I assume the limitation would prevent deactivation/logging off one machine and dovetailing into activated work on the next machine (right away) which I think is what people are trying to do.

The distinction above & my use of teamviewer is what prevented this being an issue for me... I also don't work in octane as often as most so I've often served the cold own unintentionally by the time I'm in transit and wanting to activate if I'm working on a rhino project directly from laptop...

If you deactivate the license on the computer that you are not using anymore and activate the current machine only after that, you can avoid the one hour wait.

I have to wait one hour only if I got my home comp activated and accidentally run studio computer in the same time.
