I currently have V.1.20 of the student licensed standalone Octane Render. I was wondering if it's possible to buy the plugin for Cinema 4D without a commercial STANDALONE license.
The store page clearly states that you have to have the standalone version for the plugin to work. I would rather not pay $400 for the standalone(And in turn only pay $300 for the plugin) when I won't even be using it
Thanks, I love Octane but it seems so difficult to get for a poor student like myself.
hi Funk_, Sorry to hear about that. Octane will become available on the cloud under a subscription license scheme soon making it very affordable to everyone. We hope you will consider the cloud-based Octane in the future.
We'd also like to clarify the Standalone Edition requirement. Actually, each integrated plugin is only available as an add-on/extension to the Standalone Edition. The SE is the main product, and it can be used for texturing and rendering scenes (.obj files and .abc files) exported from most 3D applications. If users want to skip the exporting from 3D app and importing into SE for rendering part, then that is where the plugin comes in handy. This means that although the plugin is a separate product and runs within another application, it will still require the presence of the standalone edition (or its license key) to be present in the same machine. This is the reason why there are combo licenses available. The combos offer a discounted price, otherwise the SE and the plugin can also be bought separately but the versions have to match.

Will the price be the same for Octane V3?
When will it be released, does anybody know anything?
hi viti, it will not be the same as v2 as there is a cost to upgrade.
The price of v3 will most likely be the price of v2 + the upgrade cost.
There's no release date yet, but here is some news about v3: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=50956
