Ok.. I have been doing research for the last few weeks reading threads here and over at allegorithmic.com and everywhere in between. For the life of me I cannot seem to fathom how you guys can make all this work. Please if part of the issue is that they just don't work together well yet... or simply a matter of time before both companies add in the necessary bits let me know.
So far.. I can do the following:
1 - create an object in maya - Add substances as textures. They show up and render fine in maya's renderers.
What i cannot seem to do is the following:
1 - create object in maya - apply substances in maya then - rending in octane. ie "grey objects"
I know there might be ways to take maya textures and convert to octane materials etc. Is that also true for "substance" based textures in maya?
Seems either functionality is missing on one end or the other?
Am i just daft or is this really annoying.
I also tried exporting texture maps then adding in an octane material but then i couldn't hook them up at all from maya file nodes
all the inputs on the octane material were greyed out!
Substance - Maya - Octane...Why is it so hard

Well i think ive gotten a bit further.. I might be trying to do this the hard way..
Here is my graph in maya.
I created a substance then had it terminate into various image files.
I then linked that to an octane image node similar to what i do in the stand alone with image maps.
then linked that to an octane material.
I then referenced those same output files as the inputs for octane image nodes.
Am i even on the right track here?
Thoughts?

Looks very promising. Hope you get this working.
I'm also interested in the 'I created a substance then had it terminate into various image files.' and whether this technique might be used as a workaround for creating procedural displacement.
Cheers

did you just plugin a maya file node to a image node somehow?
How did you do that?
