Dear Paul and Octane4Rhino users,
I have some questions regarding transfering materials and geometry.
The first case is a rhino scene that contains VRay materials. I guess that I have to disable all VRay materials and convert the Rhino materials to Octane materials, but I want to be sure if there is a direct way or script from vray4rhino shaders to octane shaders. And I need to have only rhino glossy materials even if there are no glossyness values on the rhino materials. Transparent materials have to be converted to glossy materials instead of specular materials.
Is there a table to change the translation behavior?
In the second case I need to export a Maya Scene with Octane Materials to Rhino to continue Rendering with Octane there. I also need to bring Rhino geometry and Vray4Rhino shaders to Maya (to render with Octane4Maya).
Until now I have used fbx to exchange scene geometry but I need to know if there is a quicker way via ORBX or so.
Thank you for any help and information.
Material and Scene conversion

My best guess is that Rhino will convert the Vray material to a Rhino material, which the plugin can then convert to an Octane material. So I wouldn't have thought you would need to do anything. No, you cannot change the material conversion rules, other than the adjustments in the Setup window of the plugin. Also note that the latest TEST release of the plugin substantially changes the material conversion rules (so the TEST release thread or details). The first case is a rhino scene that contains VRay materials. No, there is not a scene transfer path between Rhino and Maya via ORBX. You can however set you scene up in Maya, save as ORBX, and then load that ORBX file into Rhino as a proxy. Can could potentially also transfer materials from Maya to Rhino via the LocalDb (you would however need to save each material separately, which might be time consuming). In the second case I need to export a Maya Scene with Octane Materials to Rhino to continue Rendering with Octane there. Thank you Paul for the help.
The Proxy solution sounds interesting.
Do you think the ORBX proxy import is technical possible in Maya as well or is this a unique octane4Rhino function?
Then we could export non animated objects from Rhino via ORBX and import them as proxies in Maya. Additionally we can add animated objects in Maya.

I haven't used the Maya plugin, but not guess is that it would not support importing of ORBX files. If you have Nuke, the Nuke plugin does all this very nicely.Do you think the ORBX proxy import is technical possible in Maya as well or is this a unique octane4Rhino function?

Thank you Paul,
I will check the Maya orbx import option when I am back in the office.
Fingers crossed

Will ORBX export from Rhino will be soon possible?
This makes much sense because you can then animate scenes or camera flythroughs with other tools like Maya without having to set up the scene again.
So at the moment we have Maya that has no ORBX import but export and Rhino without export but with import.
We need to work in both ways so ORBX export from Rhino is an important feature.
Please make it happen

This is already possible with the plugin. Open the Viewport, then rightclick the Settings tree and "Export Scene to ORBX". If you want to export a specific material, select the material in the Materials panel and click Export->ORBX.Will ORBX export from Rhino will be soon possible?

Wow that is good news. Another hidden gem. I really like the power of the Rhino pluging. You are doing a great job with best support.
Thanks
