I'm not very familiar with Octane scattering, but it looks interesting. Is there a plan to support it as a plugin? I know that would mean we have no viewport feedback, but maybe it could speed up things. Or do you think its better to just export particle instances?
Both Modo Mesh Instances and Replicators use the Octane Scatter node. If you want to see how this is all wired up, open the viewport and type "octane.command showNodeGraph" and you can see how the plugin merges all instances of a Mesh Item into an Octane Scatter node.

Works by default. Both replicators or simple instances get converted to octane scatter "behind the scenes". Works like a charm! But be careful when using instances in Modo. Never make an-instance-of-an-instance (a usual workflow in 3ds max, for example), that's a big no no in modo, unless you want it to blow up in your face!
