I tried to post in the normal forum but for some reason I can't post in there but I recently bought octane for Cinema and was trying to do a multipass render. I have my layer mask set but is there a way I can have my mask render and also have items like shadow layers render too? Seems like I can only render a shadow pass on a select layer but in Cinema 4D's native render you can render object buffers and other layers too like shadows, reflections etc..
Hi Jonathan,
I guess that, as a new user, your first posts are moderated, after that you should be able to write also in the other forum sections.
About the multipass system, since Octane is quite different from the internal c4d render, you can't expect exactly the same subdivision. Have you already seen the multipass tutorials by inlifethrill?

They should give you a clear idea of what is possible to do with the c4dOctane multipass system
ciao beppe

Thanks for the reply
I actually went through his tutorials a few times when I was trying the demo it was a big reason I purchased Octane because he made it so easy to pick up it's just you don't realize what something cant do until your using it on a project. I figured maybe there was a way to render a shadow layers because I'm able to render an AO layer but it's bumps up my render times and I know traditionally shadows wont bump renders up that much.

Yes I actually went through his whole series when I was running the demo version. It's pretty much what made me purchase a license because it was so easy to understand after going through his vimeo videos. I just figured since I'm able to render out a AO pass no problem that I should be able to render out a shadow pass. AO looks great but bumped up my render times to high so that's why I was hoping to get a shadow pass so I could make adjustments in after effects. It's just a new way of working so I'll have to work with it more to wrap my head around the Octane workflow.

Have you tried to set maxsamples for AO pass and info passes. They have own maxsamples which are different from main one.JonathanWinbush wrote:Thanks for the reply

I haven't turned down the max settings I will try that next thanks.
I did have another unrelated question if you have the time to answer.
In the beauty passes you can render out Diffuse D and Diffuse L. What purpose do these have when compositing? My Diffuse D layer has really nice looking long shadows on it and was trying to figure out the purpose of this layer.
