I'm having some trouble with what appears to be an issue with XREFs and Ray Epsilon. Like most people, I use nested spheres for my characters' eyes, one for the actual eye itself (sclera, iris, pupil), and one for the cornea (reflections, basically). In build 2.24.1, no matter what I do, I cannot get the ray epsilon value low enough NOT to cause ugly darkening on the eyeball from the cornea. Even if I significantly shrink the size of the interior sphere eyeball, nothing changes. However, if make the value of ray epsilon larger, the sphere goes to nearly black, which I would expect with that lost precision.

This only happens with XREFs. The master files that source the XREFs render correctly. I have been having trouble with corrupted presets that include Octane parameters since this build released, and it is possible that my scenes prior to 2.24.1 are not going to work in this regard, but I have several scenes that I do not have time to rebuild and re-animate (assuming that is the problem, which I do not know for sure.)

I have made some simple tests, which is how I discovered the corruption of presets issue, so unfortunately, I cannot seem to reproduce this is a new set up so far. Has anyone else run into this?

OK, I have found the problem, and I am happy (and a little embarrassed) to report that it is user error. I had not remembered that I needed "Alpha Shadows" enabled in order for the eyes to render correctly. My asset file had the correct setting, but my production files, which XREFed in the asset, did not. Lesson learned....
