If I select some render passes and choose Maya16 IFF as the render format I end up with an EXR for each pass (including the beauty) AND an additional multilayer EXR named with the suffix _passes.
Is this correct? If I have the multilayer, why would I want to render all the individual files as well? That's a whole lot of redundant files to delete off my network when the render's done?
Also, the weird thing is that the multilayer EXR containing all the passes is smaller by several MB than any one of the individual pass files...?
By the way, plain old IFF won't produce EXRs, which confuses me because it shows regular IFF being chosen in the Octane manual screenshots, and as far as I can tell 16 bit IFFs in Maya are no more float than regular IFFs...
Maya EXR bug...or feature?

Right, which means that the documentation should be updated accordingly, with a different screenshot and specific mention of 16 bit (which is NOT necessarily float, but rather just more bits than 8).any of the 16 bit fileformats will give you 32 bit EXR. The 8 bit fileformats just render to the selected fileformat.
The more pressing issue is the duplication of layers as both individual EXRs and a multilayer. It should be one or the other, not both. A UI toggle would be the ideal solution.
I have to second this feature request. The more pressing issue is the duplication of layers as both individual EXRs and a multilayer. It should be one or the other, not both. A UI toggle would be the ideal solution.
Haven't seen any options for this feature in updates as of yet.
